Peacefully at University Hospital, on Thursday, July 23, 2015. Marinus “Ries” Broere, Long time Byron resident, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Elizabeth for 61 years. Sadly missed by daughter Betty and Ted of London, and sons Ron of Strathroy and Paul of Woodstock. Cherished Opa of Jordan and Candace, both of London. Predeceased by son Rick (2005). Also, survived by his two caring sisters Truus Confurius of London and Corri Van DeVenter of the Netherlands. Friend and uncle to many in both Canada and Holland. Cremation has taken place. To keep with Ries wishes there will be no visitation or memorial service. We will forever miss those “Blue Eyes”. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation London & Middlesex 519-858-2467. My thoughts and prayers go out to tante Bep, Betty, Ron, Paul and family.
I have very fond memories of ome Ries. From the times he visited us in the Netherlands, and also from my two trips to Canada; at age 12 and again 19 years ago with my then 3-year old daughter.
I will forever remember his smile and his eyes; the Broere ‘trademark’. I feel blessed to have known him as my uncle, although because of the distance we did not get to spend much time together.
